A Beautiful Lie

A Beautiful Lie is a letter away from a Beautiful Life. It’s an oxymoron. It’s optimistic. Like the rose and its thorns, or the Beauty and the Beast.

I think one unique thing about human beings is our constant need to escape. Each time we encounter a problem, whether it’s with others, ourselves, or with work, we feel like we haven’t done ourselves justice if we do not keep ourselves happy. Because that's important to us humans.

If we're not happy, we can't carry out a proper conversation. If we're not happy, we can't walk straight. If we're not happy, life seems so meaningless all of a sudden.

So sometimes we lie to ourselves, through escapism. We feel as if we have to ‘escape’ into another world, forget about the shit we have even if it’s just for a little while.

We have to ‘escape’ to forget our problems. We start finding modes of disposal to regulate our feelings. Some people listen to music, some go to the movies, write, some prefer kicking and punching things, and some prefer the more dangerous methods of drugging, smoking, cutting, drinking and so on.

There’s something unhealthy about keeping so much emotions inside that it becomes a natural cathartic process to put it out.

But sometimes we also feel the need to put on a mask, perhaps to make other people happy or to protect them from a certain truth. Like having to smile, even though you're mad about something. Having to smile, even though your family's breaking down. Having to smile, even though you've lost a loved one. Having to smile even though you don't feel like it.

There’s always the saying of honesty being the best policy. But sometimes.. just sometimes, a little bit of lying won’t hurt. Especially if it helps us in our mental and emotional self-development, our relationship with the people around us, and our past, present and future.
